David Smart, MD

Dr. David Smart is a distinguished board-certified dermatologic surgeon bringing exceptional expertise to the Advanced Lipedema Treatment (ALT) program at The Roxbury Institute in Salt Lake City. He is honored to be treating Lipedema patients in his home state of Utah. His passion for innovative surgical approaches is rooted in his vast professional background.

After graduating with honors from Brigham Young University, Dr. Smart earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Illinois Chicago.

Expanding his expertise, Dr. Smart completed an aesthetic and surgical dermatology fellowship at the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in New York. After his fellowship, he was brought in by the University of Utah of Medicine as the Director of the program of cosmetic dermatologic surgery. In his role as a professor, he brought liposuction into the dermatology department, becoming the first dermatologic surgeon at the university to perform the procedure. He pioneered and directed the department’s offerings in tumescent liposuction, while also being the first in Utah to utilize Renuvion J-Plasma technology.

He has recently completed an extensive fellowship with Dr. David Amron in Lipedema liposuction surgery as part of the Advanced Lipedema Treatment program at the Roxbury Institute in Beverly Hills. Dr. Smart not only has an artistic eye but he has mastered the innovative ALT method and three-dimensional approach to lymphatic sparing liposuction for lipedema treatment as developed by Dr. Amron. He applies that same level of high standards, patient care, and integrity to every lipedema patient he treats.

Dr. Smart is passionate about not only helping lipedema patients but also academically advancing lipedema along with the other surgeons of the Roxbury Institute through research. His specialized training and experience with the latest body contouring methods allow him to expertly treat lipedema and help patients achieve life-changing results.
